What discounts or concessions are available?
Additional discounts are available for:
Railcards
There are a range of Railcards available to buy, usually offering discounts of around one third on most Standard and First Class fares for a whole year (some Railcards available as 3-year as well).
There are a selection of National Railcards (such as Senior, Family & Friends, Veterans, 16-25, 26-30 and Two Together) as well as some more local regional Railcards which can only be used in specific areas of the national network.
Group Travel
Most Train Companies offer discounts for groups of people travelling together.
GroupSave: Groups of three to nine adults can get 1/3 off Off-Peak tickets when travelling together. The group must travel together at all times. No further discounts (using Railcards, for example) are available for any of the passengers
Larger Groups: When ten or more passengers travel together as a party to the same destination, a great discount may be available. Most Train Companies offer discounted Group Travel rates but the discount, times of availability and conditions of use may vary and may require advance booking or seat reservations. See our Group travel page for more information.
Local Authority Discounted Travel
Some local authorities or councils offer concessionary travel schemes, which enable local residents who are elderly or disabled to use public and community transport services more affordably.
To find out whether your council offers a concessionary travel scheme visit our pages or contact the Concessionary Travel office at your local council offices.
Disabled Customers
If you are registered blind or visually-impaired and are travelling with a companion, or need to remain in your own wheelchair throughout your rail journey, you can obtain discounts off of Anytime tickets.
